Build both x86 and x64 binary using 'Platform' configuration

Over the internet, I can see posts about XML manipulation leading into both x86 and x64 build of the binary.

Here's one on Stack Overflow and other from this very board.

However, Visual Studio seems to have implemented Platform configurations - feature that suggest that the requested task might be done using GUI, rather than modifying the project files and risking its corruption.

Could anyone suggest how should I use the Platforms and Build configurations to produce following builds:

  • Windows XP x86
  • Windows XP x64
  • Windows 7 x86
  • (optionally) Windows 7 x64

Espetially XPx86 version as at great demand - currently my application built under Windows 7 throws an error:

xxxx.exe is not a valid Win32 application
This is rather funny since my current Platform setting in Visual studio isWin32 (it's the default one I guess).
