Copy to network drives fails after VS2012 udates

First, apologies if this is the wrong forum but I'm not sure where to put this one.

Problem: When I try to copy a file to a mapped network drive the copy pops up a dialogue saying the file already exists. If I elect to replace the file the copy completes, if I Cancel the copy a zero length file with the name of the original file is found on the target drive. The problem seems to be related to installing VS2012Pro, updates to VS2012Pro, TFS2012 express components, or .Net4.5 (just a short list of suspects, I'm putting a new system together). Using System Restore to roll back to an initial install of VS2012 or earlier seems to clear the problem, installing almost anything after that brings it back again. It takes quite a while to go through a complete install/roll-back, cycle. Any ideas at all?

Environment: Win7Pro on 12GB i7 desktop joined to an SBS2011 domain with TFS express on the SBS server. Full install of all VS2012Pro components, Office 2010 Pro, add-ons and various bits added to get Access to talk to TFS (trial and error here so some components installed and then removed - how cleany I can't tell).
