Visual Studio as Application Container

Hello, I was once told that I could use Visual Studio itself to host an app that has a similar layout (source files, solution explorer, tabbed pages, etc..) instead of creating a new app that has all those features.

I have been searching for this on the web and cannot find any reference to it. Can someone help please?
