Visual Basic and Jet/Access question

$

Hi there.

I'm looking to make a Visual Basic app that uses Access for local data storage.  The app should, upon startup (i.e. upon the Load event for the main form) look in its own directory for the presence of an .accdb file.  If it finds it, it should open a connection to it.  If not, it should create it and then open a connection to it.

Sounds simple, yet I can't seem to find any example projects or coding help online that describe how to go about doing this.

Thanks,

Stephen

Web Publishing Extension not installed in Visual Studio 2015

Hi! I'm suing Visual Studio 2015 trying to publish my app, but when I try to do so I get the error:

The Web Publishing Extension is not installed which is required to publish. You can install it from http://http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=208120

I tried repairing Visual Studio and reinstalling Azure SDK for VS 2015 but the problem persists. I wanted to try the solution posted here http://stackoverflow.com/a/25190969/1335209 but I don't have a folderPublish in:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 14.0\Common7\IDE\Extensions\Microsoft\Web Tools\

Any idea about what can be the problem? Thank you so much!

How do I preserve GIT Commit History when moving a file between projects

I have a large solution in Visual Studio 2015 using GIT (Bitbucket) for source control. There are seven projects, all in C#. Most of the files have extensive commit histories. However, when I move files to a different project, sometimes the history is preserved and sometimes it is not preserved. How do I ensure that it is kept?

Help with scaffolding MVC with Visual Basic (tons of hours into it and I can't get started)

$

I'm using VS 2015 community. I just updated to the latest sp.

It lets me create a VB MVC project and model.

But when I add scaffolding (MVC 5 Controller with views, using entity framework), I get the message

"visual basic command line compiler has stopped working"

Then I get the error with the red x

"There was an error running the selected code generator: failed to render because of the following errors: an exception was thrown while trying to compile the transformation code (plus about 100 more lines that I can't copy because its displayed in a message box)"

This works on my sons computer - and it works on my computer if I use the C# language. I suck at syntax, so I would rather use VB than C#.

I've tried just about every possible combination of settings on the wizard. They all lead to the same error.

Suggestions?

Reinstallation of Visual Studio 2015 Community edition

After my initial attempt to install Visual Studio 2015 Community edition, only the 'Modify', 'Repair' or 'Uninstall' buttons were present. I have already uninstalled and then attempted to reinstall Visual Studio 2015 Community several times, but at every reinstall it simply returns that same functionality, namely that introductory dialog with the 'Modify', 'Repair' and 'Uninstall' buttons. Whether I 'Repair' it or 'Modify' it after that point doesn't make any difference. I still can't open Visual Studio. Is the problem that it is not being successfully uninstalled? If so, how can I check to be sure the removal was successfully complete before I try to install it again.

. . .

Thanks for any assistance,

Tallisfan

I created a new C++ CLR empty project in VS community 2015.  After the project had initialized I added a form C++ UI windows form.  Next I get an error message saying "SeverityCodeDescriptionProjectFileLine

I cannot find any reference to the error message.  I did go to the control panel and "repair" my installation of VS to no effect.

What would you suggest?  I am running on Window 7.

Problem with Starting Mobile Emulators in VS 2015

I'm still having a problem with starting phone emulators in VS2015. They were seemingly working fine at one point, but after several days of not using emulators, I went back to trying to use one and now get the following errors when attempting to run several of the universal window examples from Microsoft:

Severity Code Description Project File Line
Error  Error : DEP6100 : The following unexpected error occurred during bootstrapping stage 'Connecting to the device 'A6BAF594-9315-40C3-AD16-F5B8A425A7AB'.':

Severity Code Description Project File Line
Error  Error : DEP6200 : Bootstrapping 'Emulator 8.1 WVGA 4 inch 512MB' failed. Device cannot be found. DataReaderWriter.WindowsPhone

I also get an "Attempting to modify switch settings" warning message before the emulator fails to load.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on here?

Thanks.

Visual Studio Community 2015 on Mac

Hi,

I'm a school student and we use Visual Studio Community 2015 on a PC at school.

I'm trying to install the software on my Mac at home (I don't have a PC) to help with some homework and better understand the tool.

I download the Visual Studio Community 2015 (from https://www.visualstudio.com/) and it downloads a file calledvs_community.exe and a directory called vs_community to the downloads folder. Thevs_community folder contains 47 files all with the “Kind" showing as “document” (0 and U0-U45)

If I double click the file called vs_community.exe all it seems to do is create a second folder called vs_community-1with the same 47 files in there all with the same “document” kind.

Am I missing something ?

For info, my Dad has just downloaded the Visual Studio Community 2015 on his PC (using the same link as me) and he also gets the vs_community.exe. When he double clicks the file it launches a full install.  I will be able to use the tool on his PC but would prefer to have it on my Mac.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

J.

How do I get a custom control's event handler assignments to transfer when exporting custom control as item template?

$

I have created a custom control in Visual Studio (C#). When I export this custom control as an item template, the source code, including code for event handlers, exports along with it. The problem is that, for example, a button's click event handler is no longer assigned to it. I have to go into the event handler list for that button and reassign it. Not really a major crisis for me, since it's an easy fix, but how can I ensure that the event handlers will still be assigned to the controls to which they pertain when exporting the control as an item template?

Hi All,

Does InstallShield include the Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable ?

I made a application with mdb file, and use Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB 12.0 to connect to the database, and when I use a Installshield Limited Edition project to make the setup file, I want to check if the Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 had been installed in the computer, but I can not find the SetupPrerequisites of it , any ideas?

Thanks!

To install this application you need either a Windows developer license or a sideloading-enabled system.

Hi all,

I'm just getting started learning C# and have installed VS2015 COmmunity and Express (just in case one was different).  When I try and open the designer page I get this error message:

Weird VS bug - Window opens automatically when designer loads for the first time

$

Hi,

I have a WPF application with 2 windows. I started having this weird bug...the first time after I open VS, double clicking on the Window.XML will actually run the window right after loading the designer. This would happen only once after VS is opened and only with this window.

Also, when I run without debug (Ctrl+F5), both my starting window and the second open (also, only for the first time). If i debug, this would not happen. I tried removing from my code the line that opens this window, and it still happens.

It's like something in the XML tells it to open...

----

I tried upgrading VS to 2015 (which is the same as uninstalling and installing, right?) still nothing.

So I started removing everything from my code, clearing the window and deleting DataContext code...basically anything that has anything to do with that window. And guess what? The window keeps opening! And even after I deleted the entire content of the window, the window opens with all the buttons in it! What kind of weird bug is that?!

Any ideas?

EDIT: I literally deleted the entire content of the project, all files windows and classes, and the window still opens. I started a new project and copied the code, same thing. It's like there is a ghost or something...please help.

Thanks in advance

Help: Visual Studio 2015 seems to be hiding from me?

Hello.

I have a problem with Visual Studio 2015 Community.

It's a bit difficult to explain, but here goes.

It seems like Visual Studio is not updating the window when I e.g. Open a project, tries to write in command line, open a file.. or do anything. But a soon as I manually resize the window of Visual Studio, all the things I have pressed or typed appears.

I have Visual Studio installed on two computers. At first it was all fine and dandy on my laptop, everything worked as it should.
Then the problem started on my desktop computer, so I decided to go back to my laptop, but surprise!  Now my laptop had been cursed with the same problem! (They use the same user in Visual Studio).

I have tried to re-install VS, repair VS and delete the cache folder inside "App Data"-folder, but no luck.

It seems like Visual Studio works fine, but it just won't show me. (Unless I resize the window)

Can anyone please help me?

Add to Existing Context Menus in WPF

I'm working with a WPF TextBox and want to add to the default context menu which by default contains Cut, Copy and Paste. I've seen posts on creating a context menu for the TextBox and they all involve re-doing the Cut, Copy and Paste selections.

In general, for all controls (or MOST controls?), is there a way to ADD to the default context menu?

Thanks!
Ken

I would like to use the build version number in a control.

I want to be able to display the BUILD info major, minor, build and version as text in a control.

I cant seem to find a way to access the data.

I am building a small .net windows forms app

I have publish set to increment with each publish so

every time the project is built or rebuilt, the version increments.

I want that data in a text control.  ie  me.text would show  1.0.0.548

I am NOT using click once.

Thanks in advance.

Visual Studio 2015 XAML Designer Issue - Automatic Refresh

I am new to XAML and Windows Universal app development. I am trying to follow the Windows 10 development for absolute beginners video series in Channel9. Unfortunately, the Visual Studio 2015's XAML designer automatically keeps on refreshing. Sometimes, it seems stuck or slow when I try to click on an object to see its properties (for example). I uploaded a screen recording to give you a better idea of the problem on the link below. I am on Windows 10 with all the latest updates. Visual Studio has all the updates installed including the recent update 1.
