Unable to retrieve my Azure subscription when connecting Hive database
Hi experts,
I'm using VS 2017 Enterprise. Now I'm unable to connect Hive database under my Azure subscription. I already logged in my account with Azure subscription in both Server Explorer and Cloud Explorer. When I connect to any Hive database, it just shows error below:
This issue occurs recently since I can successfully connect those Hive databases before. And it seems only this HDInsight Tool has this issue. Here are options I already tried with no success:
- Removing all accounts-> restart VS 2017 and re-add my account-> re-login Server Explorer and Cloud Explorer.
- Delete %LOCALAPPDATA%.IdentityService folder-> restart VS-> re-signin Azure subscription
- Re-install VS 2017
Can you help me get this issue resolved?
Regards,
Simon

Windows 10 IOT Enterprise open com port
I get a priviledge error -5 trying to open a com port:
===
vciprintf("NI: opening com %s", acComPort ); hLAN = CreateFileA( acComPort, GENERIC_ALL, 0, NULL , OPEN_EXISTING, 0, NULL); if ( hLAN == INVALID_HANDLE_VALUE ) { int ierr = GetLastError(); vciprintf("NI: createfile failed on %s %d", acComPort, ierr ); errmsg("nimain", 25, ierr ); }
Generates this debug output:

But the 3rd party software WinRISC can open this port with no problem.
It is a Win 10 IOT Ent 1607.
Any suggestions?

Visual Studio 2017 Extensions and Update "cannot find setup engine instance".
After a new install of VS 2017, Tools->Extensions and Updates results in an error dialog "cannot find setup engine instance".
At this point in time, VS 2017 is pretty unusable because of this.
Visual Studio 2019 Enterprise and Compiling Existing Visual Studio 2013 Solution
Thanks for reading... just installed Visual Studio 2019 and loaded an existing solution that compiles in Visual Studio 2013. Anyway, after running a clean and rebuild I am getting the error "BC2017 could not find library [_____].dll" for every project within the solution. If I close VS 2019 and reopen the solution in VS 2013 the solution compiles without errors.
Any idea what to do with VS 2019 to get my solution to compile?
Appreciate the help.
TFS Build Definition and versions
For the past couple days I have been sifting through question and how to get the version number of an application. Some want TFS to update the version number in the application, because Developers for get to. Some want to be able to get the version number seen in Visual Studio so that when the deploy they have a file that looks like this XXX_1_0_0_1.Zip not really caring about the changeset/BuildVersion. What is the Best Practices for this practice today? Do those using tools like TFS move away from what seem to be a standard for tracking your changes to going with Changeset, knowing that changeset can get you to your changes applied to that build.
I am looking to figure out who should own Version Number? Visual Studio or TFS, If TFS is their an Easy way to update the Visual Studio Code to match TFS with out PowerScript?
As I am currently getting this error on my powerscript.
. : AuthorizationManager check failed.
Process completed with exit code 0 and had 1 error(s) written to the error stream.
How to view a rdlc report inside a windows form WITHOUT ReportViewer
Hello all,
I have one solution that contains two projects:
- Project with windows forms
- Project with reports
Ideally, I want to call one of those reports inside a form, so that they are integrated and the report can be seen inside of that form. I've been tasked with finding a solution WITHOUT using ReportViewer.. I would think since both projects (reports and forms) are in the same solution, it might be feasible to programatically call the report using something like "Solution.project.object..." inside the form's "Load" VB code.
Many thanks!

Сan we return/sell Visual Studio 2010 Professional licenses if we don't need them anymore?
Hello,
Our company develops commercial software and has 15 licenses for Visual Studio 2010 Professional.
We've purchased 15 standalone licenses for Visual Studio 2019 Professional and ported our sources to a new compiler.
What are the options for our VS 2010 licenses that we no longer need: can we return or sell them somehow?
Thank you.

Visual studio 2019 - space or not space before the closing tag
I use VS 2019 to upgrade a project from .NET 4.6.2 to .NET 4.8. Visual Studio 2019, in its ultimate wisdom, decided that it wants to use a slightly different xml format. While they are the same functionally, this type of behavior causes a lot of unnecessary changes my commits, and is a source of more unnecessary changes in the future.
Is there any way to force Visual Studio to use a consistent markup style?
How to set search-engine for VS 2019 (Community)
Is there any way to set an alternative search-engine with VS 2019?

Missing Business Intelligence templates
My company's flagship SaaS product is so large, and has been around so long, that various modules are configured for just about every flavor of Visual Studio -- we have people still working in 2005, 2008, 2010, 2013, and just starting to use 2015.
My role in all this is to provide a VM environment with a standardized template for development, so it has all their development tools preinstalled. Over the past few months I have installed umpteen versions of Visual Studio, SQL Server, and I don't remember what else.
Last month, someone requested Business Intelligence Development Studio for their VS2005 project. I did that, and all was well. Then over the past few weeks I also added VS 2010, which I then had to remove and reinstall because we had filled up the available virtual disk space on the VM image.
Somewhere in there, I broke BIDS in VS 2005. Before, when you click on "New Project", you get several Business Intelligence sample templates to choose from: Analysis Services Project, Import Analysis Services 9.0 Database, Integration Services Project, Report Server Project Wizard, Report Model Project, and Report Server Project.
Now, only Report Server Project and Report Server Project Wizard are visible. Where did the other ones go? I tried uninstalling and reinstallingSQLEXPR_TOOLKIT, which provides only the BIDS tools without a full SQL Server installation, but still those other templates are missing.
Can someone tell me which packages provides the other templates, and what I need to reinstall to make them reappear?

Business Intelligence in VS2017
I am looking for Integration Services.
(The frustrating thing is that if you try to go "backwards" to an older VS version, Microsoft happily suggests: "Why don't you download the latest version".)
But I do want to use Business Intelligence in VS2017. Any Ideas how?

Created Project Template, cannot edit a file and put it back into the .zip. VS2017
I created a Project template and named it StandardProject. It works well, but I need to tweak a Using statement. In Windows Explorer (Microsoft Windows 7 Enterprise, Service Pack 1, 64-bit) I drag out FormMain.cs make my edit, and drag it back in. I select Copy and Replace. I get the message that the zip file is invalid or corrupt. Yet it still works fine in all respects (except this).
I have no instances of VS open, and I even rebooted the computer, but the problem remains.
I do not believe the zip file is invalid or corrupt, or I couldn't still use it as a template, and I wouldn't be able to see and drag(copy) out files.
What is going on, and how can I put my edited file back in?
Thank you

Publishing NuGet packages
I'm astonished at the complete lack of GUI support in Visual Studio (including 2019) for publishing a nuget package to some feed. I've read many articles by Microsoft (and supplied feedback on some of these) which all seem to resort to using command line nuget.exe commands for the publish step.
I was just playing with VS 2019 and a .Net Standard library test project. In there I can define package details and I can right-click the project and choose "Pack" to generate the package.
We've setup a package source for our company in Azure and we can pull packages from there fine. But there seems to be no way I can use the VS 2019 GUI to publish to Azure.
(I know our devops settings can be configured to publish the package automatically when code builds in Azure, but initially we need to the ability for developers to publish from their desktop).
If I choose Publish on the project I get one option - the local file system - there's zero support for adding our own feed details and publishing to there.
Why has Microsoft done absolutely nothing for years and years in this area of Visual Studio?
If I am wrong and there are ways then please share them here, I can't even find an extension that offers this - over and over when it comes to publishing a package to a feed we get told "run these commands" but where? what folder should the command window be in? must we add the folder where nuget.exe is to our environment variables?
This whole area is a mess!
Download VS.NET 2019 Offline Installer
Hi,
I used the following command on VS.NET 2019 Pro and it was working fine until the last build of version 2017.
But in 2019 this does not work, it seems Windows SDK is not present of not this version:
vs_professional.exe --layout C:\VS.NET --add Microsoft.VisualStudio.Workload.ManagedDesktop --add Microsoft.Net.ComponentGroup.TargetingPacks.Common --add Microsoft.Net.ComponentGroup.4.7.DeveloperTools --add Microsoft.VisualStudio.Component.DiagnosticTools --add Microsoft.VisualStudio.Component.Windows10SDK.16299.Desktop --lang en-US
However, just wanna make an offline installer of VS.NET Pro 2019 for managed desktop development, only VB.NET/C#, nothing else as you can see above + Windows SDKLatest Version
What are the new parameters?Thanks.
Text selection delay in Visual Studio
Hello everyone,
Im using Visual Studio Ultimate 2013 ver12.0.21005.1 (net framework 4.7), on desktop PC everything works fine, but on Dell Inspiron P75F (i7 7500U, RAM 8gb DDR4, GPU radeon 530 4gb) I have problems when it comes to source code mouse selection. Im using mouse very much and this is very annoying.
Example, I have this text in my source code:
mo=985611888;
If i click on first 9, and drag mouse to the right, it will not select single char or any char until it pass 1 second or at least 5-6 chars... then it starts selecting/highlighting, or if i click before m, and drag mouse down, on empty line, it does not select whole line, as it does on desktop PC.
Can someone clarify why this different than on desktop PC?
When I open the very same small project on desktop pc, im able to select with mouse any char in source code without any delay...
Laptop is brand new, so it must have been some settings in question.
Im new to laptops, so if there is some trick, or keyboard shortcut beware then I may not know about it.
What I tried:
- Change usb port for mouse to reinstall driver
- Insert/Overwrite
- Disable touch pad while mouse is connected, change sensitivity
- Uninstall Visual studio then install again
- Disable / enable hardware acceleration Visual Studio - Tools - Options - Environment - Visual Experience
- Disable extensions Visual Studio
Thanks in advance for help and sorry if placed in wrong category, this is first time im writing on msdn, I cannot find answer on google after 2 days...
