Hi,

I am trying to use a third party .dll for my Visual Studion 2012, C Sharp project. The instructions from the third party on how
to use the DLL say "For Windows, place xyz.dll in the PATH;"

Thus I take the xyz.dll (right click on it and select copy) and then paste it in any one of the several directories (randomly chosen by me) which map to my PATH enviroment variable.
Next, I go my project within Visual Studio, right click on it, select Add reference. Then using the Reference Manager Dialogue, I browse to the same directory where I pasted the
xyz.dll, select the file, put a check mark in front of it, and hit ok. It fails and I get the following pop up..

A reference to 'C\Program Files (x86)\....xyz.dll' could not be added. Please make sure that the files is accessible, and that it is a valid assembly or COM Component.

I have checked the Security properties of this file and I have read, execute access, at least. can you please let me know what could be going wrong. Is my method correct ?

I have not done much of this kind of DLL addition before..

Thank you
D
