So I tried Visual Studio 2012 Express and have found the new Help Viewer 2.x is missing features of the old Microsoft Document Explorer found in Visual Studio 2008. Namely settings for Language, Technology, Content Type.
I have tried to use the new Microsoft Help Viewer 2.x with a lot of the help files downloaded to local disk and it is a nightmare trying to get the correct result of a search term, I have to wade through a lot of stuff that i didn't want. In my opinion this feature needs to come back asap. It is nonsensical to expect the user to delete the help files they currently do not want in order to narrow down the search results (I have not tried this, I can only guess this would be a solution although not as precise as the old Document Explorer). Since the user would then have to re-download the help files they then need at a later date and delete those that they don't need, again. This downloading can not be good for the user and not for Microsoft's servers.
I have just bought Visual Studio 2012 Professional but have not installed it yet and would like that not to be a waste of money (ie have to wait for a newer version that does include these features in its help) so does anyone know if and when this feature will be available for Help Viewer 2 or later? Also be a download for free?
Or perhaps someone knows of a workaround or even a way to bring back the old Document Explorer? I am seriously open to any ideas..
Does anyone else feel the same way?
